The NRP Section 1 for the BMW E46 M3 replaces the factory pipe that runs from the headers to the section 2 flange — the piece that carries the restrictive secondary catalytic converters. Swapping it for a free-flowing section opens the whole front half of the exhaust up, sharpens throttle response, and lets a lot more of the S54 through. Direct bolt-on between the factory (or NRP) headers and the factory section 2 or any aftermarket midpipe built for it.
